Pay Protection Reduced for All Staff

Pay Protection Reduced for All Staff

Do you think the new A&E Workforce Plan only affects frontline staff?

Understandable but unfortunately wrong.

The reality is that, yes, you are very much affected. Please do not be fooled, although the majority of the plan relates to changes to the A&E side of the service, it all has to be paid for. This is where your terms and conditions come in.

The trust have decided that in order to help pay for the changes, they will reduced YOUR pay protection from 5 years to a maximum of just 2, this is regardless of which department you work in, EVERYONE is affected.

What does Pay Protection mean?

Pay Protection is there for exactly that, to protect your pay should the Trust decide to have for instance a restructure in your department. Should this restructure mean that your job is no longer needed (or not as many) you could be offered a job at a lower banding, then pay protection kicks in maintaining your pay at the higher level for up to 5 years under the current policy . It is this that the Trust want to reduce, meaning that after a maximum of 2 years you will be earning less money should restructure and down banding occur.

In its current format, because of this pay protection issue, at the end of the current consultation period (April 24th) ALL UNISON members within the trust will be asked to vote on the proposal.

Please do not discard any information put out that says A&E Workforce Plan, remember it doesn’t matter which department you work in, it DOES affect you.
