UNISON update 15-10-14

Strike Action 13th October 2014

Dear Member

UNISON Yorkshire Ambulance Branch would like to thank all members who took part in the Strike. It was a massive success locally with many different groups taking part in the action, UNISON will keep members informed of dates for any further action.

Please be reminded that there is currently an overtime ban in place for all members until midnight Friday 17thOctober.

UNISON members have raised concerns around the categorisation of certain jobs and EOC members felt they should have had more support from the committee during the action and maybe had someone in the two units during the strike. UNISON will look into these concerns and rectify them in time for the next day of action

Once again we would like to thank you for your continued support.

BANDING ISSUES/CONFUSION

UNISON would like to clarify its position regarding the current banding/ scope of practice confusion and who can respond to what category of call.

UNISON over the next 3 months is negotiating a new work force plan and since initial discussions ALL existing protected band 4 A&E staff have been moved back onto band 4 In the interim these members can work together and attend “urgent” details

The agreement was that in the interim period whilst the new workforce plan is being negotiated staff who return to band 4 would work to their original Job Description and Scope of Practice. UNISON have been made aware that there is a Scope of Practice being circulated which is not the original but a newly written one NOT agreed by UNISON.

As a result of this UNISON are instructing member to adhere to the following;

Two band 4 members can respond to urgent details.

Band 4 and band 3 urgent tier member can respond to urgent details.

Two band 3 urgent tier members can attend urgent details as previously agreed.

Band 4 and band 3 ECA cannot respond to any calls at this time.

Two band 3 ECAs cannot respond to any calls at this time and should always work with a band 5 clinician.

Only band 5 clinicians can respond on FRVs.

It is hoped that at the end of the 3 month negotiations that there will be career progression for all UNISON members, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with any questions.

GROUP SPECIFIC

BRANCH MEETINGS

The following meetings have been arranged to gather information and concerns from specific roles within A&E Operations, in light of the forthcoming negotiations.

It is important for members to attend the meeting because it is envisaged that branch mandates will need to be voted on. The meetings have been arranged centrally because this is the only way the Branch Committee can obtain clear Trust wide mandates from members.
