RESPONDING ON PRE- ALERTS

RESPONDING ON PRE- ALERTS

Dear Member

With Reference to point 2.2 in Fridays Operational Update RESPONDING ON PRE-ALERTS

Unison has requested a meeting with senior Management to discuss this issue as a matter of priority, as of this moment no meeting has taken place. It is a great concern that our members are placing themselves and the public at immense risk by (a) Responding to Pre –Alerts under Emergency Conditions and (b). By responding to un-coded incidents under Emergency Conditions. To this end we would draw your Attention back to the notice issued on 10.06.2013. Where part of the statement issued by a Deputy Police Chief Constable clearly states

“Activation of Emergency Driving Conditions Must Only be Applied Once It is Believed That An Emergency Actually Exists .EG Communication From A Call Centre. Whilst I do appreciate that this aspect of the policy does appear to be in conflict with circumstances where a paramedic is lawfully required to under emergency conditions but the decision to drive in this manner is always the decision of the driver.”

As a branch we are taking steps to resolve this issue ASAP

Unison Branch Committee.
