Operation Redesign Update 19/9/13

Operation Redesign Update

It is becoming increasingly apparent that the trust ‘ideals’ that are being announced at the Operational Redesign meetings are far from ‘ideal’ for our members.

Apparently, the main areas of concern, and our initial response to them, are as follows:

·     Rota’s – UNISON have not had any input into the rota’s produced nor sight of them prior to the meetings.

·     Annual Leave – We believe the policy should remain as it currently is and that all annual leave booked since July will be honoured unconditionally.

·     Rest Break – We acknowledge that a 20 minute unprotected break is not adequate, due to the nature and volume of the work, particularly on longer shifts. There are also Health and Safety concerns regarding carrying food on a front line A&E vehicle.

·     Large Staff Movement – The wholesale movement of staff from some stations is totally unacceptable and will not be supported by UNISON.

As a result we formally requested at the Joint Steering Group (JSG) today that the trust postpone the remaining meetings and call back the rota’s already issued, the trust however are determined to go ahead.

If this stance continues then we will have no option but to consider having a ‘straw poll’ ballot, prior to formal consultation, in an attempt to make the trust realise just

how unacceptable their proposals are to our members.
